Spring fest

I think it is kind of funny how much college costs and how people complain, yet they don't when the college pays for a comedian to come to the school or carnival rides. Probably from the psychology of the fact if you lump that money in with "fees" people don't complain as much when they have to pay for their tickets at the door. Yet the problem is, is that not every student gets to go see the comedian or win a prize at the carnival. All these events you pay for and don't even goto. Just something I thought about recently

english 102

this year in english 102 we had to do an ethnography project lasting the whole semester. I have never done a project that took this long to complete nor an ethnography in general. I had to study the Shea Durgin Game room. I learned that the game room is used to meet people at the beginning of the year and then after it it used much less to actually hang out. It is also used to host functions run by fraternities and to keep students occupied when not in class. I enjoyed the english 101 projects more because they were different and interesting to me personally.

research

I decided to study the ECC.
There seems to be every single kind of person here. There have been more girls than guys but that seems to be because of the school's guy to girl ratio being in favor of the girls. blondes and brunettes are the most common followed but redheads and then other colors that aren't natural such as green, purple, pink, and blue. There was one guy who had at least a foot tall fan-spiked blue mo-hawk. He stuck out like big blue thumb. It is around dinner time so there are a lot of people here. most tables seem to be completely filled. I know all are students and people that work here, and I assume most are residents or those who take evening classes here. It got really loud once you stopped talking to the people at your table and listened to everyone around you.

Questions about my place

The questions about the place I will be studying, the game room in Shea/Durgin Hall I have are as follows:
1. How many people are there each day
2. What's the most amount of people that use it at once on average
3. reasons for using it
4. Difference between week days and weekends
5. How many people use it for reasons other than gaming

What I already know about the site is that it is used almost exclusively to Shea/Durgin residents, it has a pool table, ping-pong table, air hockey table, TV, vending machines, and a kitchen. Also any of the equipment used in the room has to be signed out at the RA office such as the pool stuff and the ping-pong ball and paddles. People also walk through the room to get to the laundry room

Essay

In class we have to write a research essay about a specific place and our first job it to first research ourselves to see if we have any biases about the place we are planning to research on. It is a good start because I'm sure most of my class doesn't know exactly what they want to research yet or may want to change it after thinking about it so researching the place now would be counter productive.
